The Greenwich Polo Club is set to host its opening match of the summer season on June 2nd, 2013. Sunday’s match, which is open to the public, will feature Greenwich-based team Airstream vs. opponent team Scarsdale-based Heathcote Polo.

Peter Orthwein’s Airstream team has 20 goals. Players include: Peter Orthwein (1); Guille Aguero (6); Mariano Gonzalez (7); and Kris Kampsen (6).

Steve Lefkowitz’s Heathcote Polo team has 16 goals. Players include: Steve Lefkowitz (0); Naco Taverna (6); Tommy Biddle (6); Nick Manifold (5).

Half-time will feature a very special “stomping of the divots” – a polo tradition where spectators help replace mounds of earth that are torn up by the horses hooves – with guests searching for a hidden champagne cork on the field. The lucky winner who finds the cork will receive a bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne, sponsored by polo enthusiast Susan Oliver Whitney. Following the match, a trophy presentation will be held for the players and will feature Most Valuable Player sponsored by Royal Salute and Winning Team Trophies sponsored by Parfums Cartier – the official fragrance house of the Greenwich Polo Club. Greenwich Polo Club’s last day of play during the summer season is July 14th. The fall season starts on September 1st.

This year we are happy to announce that L’escale will be hosting an exclusive VIP Tent. Enjoy a catered lunch and cocktails while relaxing under our private tent and watching an exhilarating high goal polo match. The VIP tent will be open on June 9th, 16th and 30th. VIP Members will be invited to the Royal Salute Jubilee Cup event and to The Greenwich Cup. Lunch is served from 1pm-3pm. Our Members Tent is open rain or shine, parking included. His Grace the Duke of Argyll and Peter M Brant will lead celebrations at the opening polo match of the Fall Season at Greenwich Polo Club on Sunday 2nd September, with the inaugural 20 goal USPA Royal Salute Jubilee Cup. A piper will add a Scottish flavor to Labor Day weekend festivities, when VIPs will be asked to salute the sportsmanship of the players and their horses at the prize giving ceremony.

Royal Salute supports some of the most luxurious polo matches in the world, staged in the grandest venues and The Royal Salute Jubilee Cup enclosure in the beautiful, award winning grandstand at Greenwich Polo Club is no exception. Local, national and international VIP guests will be treated to award winning L’Escale restaurant’s afternoon tea and a specially curated whisky salute, and prior to the match, will enjoy a private tour of the Karen Kilimnik exhibition at The Brant Foundation Art Study Center. Asprey, British jewellers and silversmiths since 1781, has created a special handmade sterling silver and gilt whisky tumbler for the winning team captain to mark the occasion.
